These pieces derive from photographs that I took in the 1980’s, that had been left for years in a damp attic .. over three hundred images all shape shifted into something new. Many have an abstract quality, some are like Turneresque landscapes and others seem to be archetypal portraits painted in a bygone era.
I have reworked the images in photoshop, to help draw out and accentuate what I 'saw' in the watery-like surfaces of the old prints. The finished work is as a result, an unusual combination of analogue and digital, of memory and of loss, and is intrinsically both conceptual and organic...
At a time of unprecedented change both externally and internally for me these images become a metaphor, asking us to question the very things we took as our core, as our history.
